Background

In mineral processing and metallurgy, slurry-transport pipelines are prone to solids settling, blockage and wear. Obtaining slurry concentration and distribution online is critical to production continuity and equipment life.

Measurement challenges

  • Slurry is highly abrasive, so the sensor needs a wear-resistant structure
  • The solid phase is unevenly distributed, so single-point measurement is unrepresentative
  • High slurry conductivity places demands on the dynamic range of the acquisition front-end

Our solution

The TJUERT multi-plane 3D resistance tomography system: contact electrodes are embedded in a wear-resistant liner, multi-plane placement tracks the longitudinal distribution along the pipe, and data is uploaded to an on-site PC and integrated with the production-management system.

Results

  • Real-time display of slurry concentration distribution and motion
  • Early warning of blockage and segregation risk
  • Provides a basis for optimising slurry-transport parameters (flow rate, pressure)
